Hypnotherapy
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis for self-improvement and the removal of problems. Hypnosis is essentially guided meditation through which the natural power of the unconscious mind is employed to help make positive change.
At Pinnacle Therapy, we use a CBT-based form of Hypnotherapy. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT - one of our counselling specialities - is widely regarded as one of the most effective forms of therapy. Our CBT-based Hypnotherapy combines the efficacy of hypnotherapy with the self-awareness that CBT offers, making it a highly successful way to change behaviour, embed and consolidate new thinking and aid deep relaxation. In fact, research has shown that this approach is up to 80% more successful than straightforward hypnotherapy.
What happens in a Hypnotherapy session?
Forget all the traditional clichés about having your mind taken over or being brainwashed. Instead, for most people it’s a highly enjoyable experience during which the therapist places you in a state of deep relaxation. Quite often it will just involve you closing your eyes and being guided through a sequence of muscle relaxation exercises. Once the body is deeply relaxed, the hypnotherapist can work with you in a creative way.
How long does Hypnotherapy treatment last?
It is generally a short-term method of treatment and you will usually benefit from it within the first few sessions. Those people who are motivated to change have the most success. A visit to a hypnotherapist normally takes about an hour. Most clients cannot believe how quickly the time goes, and sometimes the hour seems more like twenty minutes. This is because in the relaxed hypnotic state we are not as aware of time as we are in our normal state.
Which conditions does Hypnotherapy help?
It has been shown to be effective in treating a number of issues, including:
1. Stress
2. Anxiety
3. Lack of confidence
4. Anger
5. Performance issues
6. Unwanted habits or addictions
7. Phobias
