Depression Counselling
Counselling for depression helps and supports people who are suffering from feelings of unhappiness, sadness and distress. These negative feelings may come and go, they may be constant and they may become serious.
Depression is an illness. It may be triggered by a personal trauma such as change, relationship breakdown or bereavement. Depression can undermine confidence, motivation and the quality of life. Depression can be persistent and be a re-occurring illness. Some people may be vulnerable to depression, or even susceptible to depression.
Severe depression may lead to thoughts of self harm or even suicide. Whilst depression counselling will help, some people may be under a GP for medication as well as seeing a counsellor or psychotherapist. Some people with depression may be referred to a counsellor or a psychotherapist by a psychiatrist or vice versa.
Depression counselling uses a number of different approaches to tackle depression, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Gestalt Therapy.
Our approach to counselling for depression
We take an holistic approach when treating depression – often blending therapies together – so that each client receives what works best for them. This is called integrative counselling. When clients come to us with an idea of what they need, we always recommend that we discuss the options first so we can reach a joint decision about what would be most effective.
With depression counselling, it is important that the client realises there is a problem and that our mental health and well-being can be affected by experiences and events that have happened at any age during our lives.
Some issues are more deep-rooted than others. And some are more complex than they seem at first. We are flexible and will recommend changes to any agreed programme if we think that would be better for you.
It may be that we recommend Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – CBT for depression.
Whatever we agree, our service is confidential and discreet. We never disclose the names of our clients or talk about them to third parties. Although we have included on this website comments from clients, none of them includes the client’s full name or exact location.
We help individuals, couples and groups of any age, including children and young adults. Many of our clients are in their 30s and 40s, when life can be especially difficult to cope with, but our emotions can be challenging at any age and stage of life.
With depression counselling, private one-to-one counselling is usually what happens. On occasions, we may have an counselling group of adults or a counselling group of young people to talk about depression.
If you would like to find out if we could help you, we invite you to contact us.

"I am happy to write and let you know I have been off cigarettes now for one year. I didn't
believe it could work for me, but I gave it a try. You were wonderful! I'm deeply grateful."
